5.   0.2 + 0.2 - 0.2 / 0.2 * (0.2 * 0.2), on simplification, gives :

Given expression => ${(0.2+0.2-1\times0.04)}$ => 0.4 - 0.04 = 0.36

6.   On Children's Day sweets were to be equally distributed among 175 children in a school. Actually on the Children's Day, 35 children were absent and therefore each child got 4 sweets extra. Total how many sweets were available for distribution?

Let total no. of sweets be 'x'
Then, ${\frac{x}{140} - \frac{x}{175}}$ = 4
=> 5x - 4x = 4 * 700
=> x = 2800

7.   From a group of boys and girls, 15 girls leave. There are then left 2 boys for each girl. After this, 45 boys leave. There are then 5 girls for each boy. Find the number of girls in the beginning

Assume that initial number of boys = b
initial number of girls = g

15 girls leave and they are then left 2 boys for each girl
=> 2(g - 15) = b
=> 2g - b = 30 ---(Equation 1)

After this, 45 boys leave. There are then 5 girls for each boy
5(b - 45) = (g - 15)
5b - g = 210---(Equation 2)

(Equation 2) x 2
=> 10b - 2g = 420---(Equation 3)

(Equation 1) + (Equation 3)
=> 9b = 450
=> b = 450/9 = 50

Substituting this value of b in Equation 1, we get
2g - 50 = 30
=> 2g = 80
=> g = 40

i.e., number of girls in the beginning = 40

8.   A Worker may claim Rs. 1.50 for each km which he travels by taxi and 50 p for each km he drives his own car. If in one week he claimed Rs. 50 for travelling 80 km, how many kms did he travel by taxi?

Let the distance covered by taxi be x km.
Then, distance covered by car = (80 - x) km.
Therefore, 1.5x + 0.5(80-x) = 50 => x= 50-40 =10

9.   In a group of buffaloes and ducks, the number of legs are 24 more than twice the number of heads. What is the number of buffaloes in the group?

Let the number of buffaloes be x and the number of ducks be y
=> 4x+2y = 2(x+y)+24
=> 2x = 24
=> x = 12

10.   On her birthday Priyanka equally distributed chocolates among her 120 classmates. But on that day 15 of her classmates were absent. Thus each friend got 4 extra chocolates. How many chocolates did each friend get?

Let the number of chocolates each child got is x => ${ \frac{120x}{105}-x = 4}$
=> ${\frac{(120x-105x)}{105}=4}$
=> 15x = 420 => x = 28
Thus each classmate got (28 + 4) = 32 chocolates.

11.   2660 of 1/7 of 1/2 of 1/9.5 of 1/2 = ?
